A family in Oklahoma went through the worst tragedy that could possibly befall them when a mother and daughter got into an argument in the middle of a dark road and were run over by a pickup truck, causing one fatality.
People reports that Emma Marie Linn, 22, was killed on State Highway 2 after a motorist ran her over along with her mother, Heather Linn-Schutt, 46. Reportedly, Emma and Heather got into a heated argument which culminated in a physical altercation in the middle of the road. The mother and daughter had apparently been at a family gathering where they did not see eye to eye about an unspecified issue and ended up trying to settle their differences at around 10:15 p.m. in the middle of the road.
The driver of the pickup truck has since been identified as Ricardo Velasquez, 30. Velasquez was found to be wearing a seatbelt and stayed at the scene until the police responded to the situation. No charges have been filed against Velasquez, and officials correctly ruled this as an unfortunate accident that occurred on a dark road that unexpectedly had people standing in the middle of it. “Accidents” don’t always hold up to further scrutiny, so it was very important for Velasquez to ensure he was cleared by the police.
Heather was reportedly transferred to a Plano hospital, where her condition stabilized after receiving intensive care. However, according to some reports, Heather was found to have very serious lower back injuries when she was first taken to the hospital. Their family is hoping for a quick recovery.
A few days before the tragic accident, Emma had posted a Facebook memory reliving a “mini stroke” she suffered last year while having a child. Emma was a mother of two boys — one who recently joined kindergarten in Oklahoma’s evolving education system and the other who had just celebrated his first birthday. Their community is currently in deep mourning, trying to figure out a way they can show unity and support for the family in shock.
Emma’s friends on Facebook are showing love and support for the loss and sparing a thought for her two very young boys. The last time Emma’s family was asking for prayers was in September last year when she had her child, which caused her to have a “mini stroke” with postpartum preeclampsia. They all celebrated, rightfully so, when Emma was able to recover from that scare, only for her to meet a more tragic and heartbreaking fate.
There’s little that can be said to console the family right now, but it’s clear that they are showing unity toward each other on Facebook through wall posts and comments sharing what they loved so much about Emma.
Road safety cannot be overstated. Standing in the middle of roads, especially at night, can cause carnage of unforeseen magnitudes. In such situations, regardless of how easy it seems for car headlights to capture everything before them, things can happen too quickly for most people to respond in a positive manner.
Emma is survived by loving friends, family, and her mother. The family has not yet released any statement to the press regarding this matter. They probably prefer privacy at this difficult time.
