Pat expresses herself through fashion
Finding the right look isn’t easy. A lot of people copy their friends’ clothes to try and fit in. But fashion can be a form of self-expression, so it’s refreshing when people are brave enough to adopt a unique look.
Chayanit Chansangavej (Pat) is known not only for her performances in such GMM25 dramas as Love Song Love Series to Be Continued: What I Ask For and No Affection, but also for her sense of fashion. She may not be a catwalk model, but her sense of style has managed to catch the attention of the media and fans.
S Weekly met up with the 23-year-old actress to discuss her style and what fashion means to her.

What does fashion mean to you?
Pat: It’s an opportunity to be creative in our day-to-day routine. You can design something and have fun with it.
Is there a particular style you like?
Pat: I used to like ‘70s fashion, but now I don’t restrict myself to one style. There isn’t really such a thing as Eastern or Western fashion anymore. Nowadays, fashion can mix elements from all different cultures together.
Did studying visual communication have an influence on your tastes?
Pat: My tastes are the same, but I gained the courage to try new things. Everybody at Silpakorn University was open-minded and liberal.
How do you shop for clothes?
Pat: I mostly shop online because I’m too lazy to walk around a mall. But I don’t just sit around looking at clothes all day. I only buy when I find something interesting. I also buy second-hand clothes, especially if they are unique or rare.
Is it true that you sometimes make your own clothes?
Pat: Kind of. I haven’t had any lessons, but I’ll redesign something so it’s the way I want it to be. I once made some holes in a shirt and I thought it looked really cool. But my mom thought it was old and donated it to charity! She didn’t understand my style.

Have you ever regretted any fashion choices you’ve made?
Pat: No, I have high self-esteem. [Laughs.] But looking back, some of the choices I made were quite funny.
What’s your opinion of high-end brands?
Pat: Recently, a lot of luxury brands have been trying to make their clothing more attractive to the general public by incorporating street styles. It’s a good way of encouraging more people to buy them.
What’s your advice to those who want to find their own style?
Pat: Don’t worry about it too much. It’s not the most important thing in life. But you should try not to copy other people’s styles too much. You should figure out who you are and what you like. If you know yourself, you’ll find the answers.
How do you feel when you get criticised for what you wear?
Pat: To be honest, it can get me down a little bit. But I’m not going to run home and change just because somebody else doesn’t like what I’m wearing. What’s important is wearing what makes me happy, not what pleases somebody else. Be yourself!
