‘She never called’: Woman does charge back on $360 necklace claiming she never got it. Then the Shopify seller finds her on TikTok

Certain influencers can feel entitled to freebies, but it looks like one content creator took it too far after “stealing” a $360 necklace.

Luna Ray (@lunaraejewellery), the embattled Shopify seller, shared her experience with 5.4 million viewers, saying, “So we just had an influencer steal from us. What would you do in this situation?”

In the beginning, things were simple—a customer bought a diamond and gold necklace for $360. Everything seemed to be in order, with the necklace being sent out as usual. So, Luna was surprised when the Shopify account came to her and explained that the customer had issued a chargeback, saying she never got the order.

“This was news to us,” she said. “The customer has never reached out. She never called and said, ‘Where’s my order?’ So we went back and were like, ‘Here’s the tracking.’ She got it two days later. Somehow, I’m not sure how she did it. She proved to them that she never got the product […] She got the chargeback, approved and got refunded. We lost the necklace. We lost the money.”

Suspicions aroused, Luna tried to raise it again, but was turned away. “We kept looking into it, and we found the customer on TikTok. And guess what? She’s got all over her neck, our $360 uniquely designed necklace. We know it’s our necklace, and she’s wearing it in all of her TikToks.”

She continued, “She is an influencer. She has been on a reality show. Who does that? There was no gifting, she just bought it as a regular customer, got it claimed back, got the money back, took the necklace, is wearing it on her socials. Seriously. What do we do here?”

Rae didn’t immediately respond to The Mary Sue’s request for comment via TikTok comment and email.

What did commenters think?

In the comments, the consensus was clear: this is illegal. “This is bank fraud… file a police report and file a lawsuit and take her to small claims court,” one wrote. “She committed fraud,” another added. “I’d take it to the police.”

“It’s fraud,” a third agreed. “Save the videos, file a police report, contact Shopify with the evidence. She will absolutely be held accountable and she SHOULD. She’s probably done this to others before. She will do it again. I don’t care how much money it was, I’d be outraged.”

Elsewhere, users also tried to guess which influencer Luna is referring to, but the vendor remained tight-lipped about the person they were talking about. But some commenters suggested that this might be doing more harm than good.

“Call her out, name her – this video is causing people to speculate, and other innocent creators are getting targeted for no reason,” a fourth put. “I feel so sorry for the girls being wrongly accused,” a fifth echoed. “Just say who it is.”

Are false chargebacks actually illegal?

As the commenters point out, false chargebacks are illegal. Specifically, this action is referred to as “chargeback fraud,” according to the fraud website Unit21.

“Chargeback fraud is when a person knowingly makes a purchase with a credit card, then disputes the charge with their credit card provider,” the site explains. “It’s a form of fraud because the customer is intentionally being deceptive, either about not authorizing a payment or about not receiving a product or service.”

So, whoever did this, it looks like they’re in deep trouble—even influencers aren’t above the law.
