‘She may have to show them her papers’: People poke fun at JD Vance as he laughs off Jen Psaki’s comments about his wife, Usha

Trump haters are having a field day with their jokes after JD Vance reacted to Former White House Press Secretary and political analyst Jen Psaki’s comments about his wife.

For the unfamiliar, Jen Psaki, while appearing on an episode of the “I’ve Had It” podcast on Tuesday, joked about Usha Vance, JD Vance’s wife, by saying that she believes she is scared of her husband. She cheekily remarked, “Please blink four times. We’ll come over here. We’ll save you”, highlighting a possible hostage situation she needed to be saved from. While Psaki’s comments were made humorously and with a bit of intent, the MAGA crowd took it personally. They criticised her across social media, and some even called for her removal from MSNBC.

Now, JD Vance is reacting to her comments about Usha after he was asked to by an interviewer. Vance immediately dismissed Psaki’s comments and called it “disgraceful”, but also noted that “the second lady” could “speak for herself.” He also added:

“I am very lucky to have a wonderful wife, and I know, at least I hope, that my wife feels the same about me. We are very lucky to have this journey, or I should say I am very lucky to go on this journey with a very loving wife. We’re gonna keep on serving the country together…”

Vance’s comments didn’t sit well with many, especially those who believed that his wife actually needed rescuing from her husband. It also didn’t sit well with the people who were being affected daily by Vance’s unrelenting support of President Donald Trump and his endeavours. One person on X (formerly Twitter), where clips of the interaction were widely circulated, highlighted Trump and Vance’s immigrant crackdown efforts and said:

“Just keep her away from ice, or she may have to show them her papers.”

Another person highlighted Vance’s trend of speaking about Usha only in patriarchal undertones and highlighted:

“They’d be bragging she’s a brilliant lawyer and woman of color if she were on the Democrat’s side.”
