For many people, traveling is already an anxiety-inducing experience. Getting to the airport on time, dealing with TSA, navigating a vast airport, and just trying to make it to your gate can all add some stress to your travel.
The ones who should make your travels easier, however, are the gate agents. They are there to guide you and ensure you make it onto your flight smoothly.
One woman said this wasn’t the case for her.
In a viral TikTok, Nouna (@nounadiaries) shares how a Delta agent allegedly lost her passport as she was preparing to board her flight. In her clip, which has been viewed over 2.5 million times, she films two agents at the desk.
Nouna argues with a gate agent, repeatedly telling her that the other agent lost her passport.
“Can you bring my passport?” Nouna asks repeatedly. The agent tries to tell her that no one lost her passport. She says that she has an issue with the way Nouna is speaking to her.
“The way you just verbally attacked me, ma’am,” the agent says, to which Nouna denies doing.
When the agent apologizes to Nouna, the TikToker says she only did so after realizing she’s being filmed.
When Nouna accuses the other worker of not being able to find her passport, the agent tells her that “unfortunately, a mistake was made.” However, she does not clarify what that mistake was.
They continue arguing back and forth before the agent tells Nouna that someone went to look for her passport.
Viewers are on Nouna’s side
Several of Nouna’s commenters thought the Delta agents were in the wrong, claiming they were gaslighting Nouna.
One top comment with 92,000 likes read, “Stealing passport is A federal criminal offense.”
“*lost your passport* *gives you a speach on how to talk to people* girlllll what???” another wrote.
A viewer accused the agent of being manipulative, writing, “She’s trying to speak calmly to make you look like you’re being aggressive. Manipulation tactic. She needs to give you, your passport.”
What happens if you lose your passport at an airport?
Nouna did not provide further updates, and since the agent revealed someone had gone to look for her passport, the issue was likely resolved. However, if you do lose your passport at an airport, your first act should be finding a TSA representative and letting them know what happened, a TSA spokesperson told CN Traveler in a 2016 article.
“The TSA rep will then look for a manager or supervisor, and you’ll be taken through the process of flying without an ID,” the site wrote. “They will most likely ask you to produce any other form of identification on you (hello, library card), and will employ matching technology to help them get a clearer picture of who you are.”
Things get a bit more difficult if you are abroad trying to return home. CN Traveler states you will need to replace your passport before flying home. You can do so by contacting the U.S. Consulate in the country you are in.
