Natalie Sorrells, a 44-year-old mother and church volunteer from Heath, Texas, near Dallas, will spend five years in prison after being convicted on two counts of indecency with a child. In the same case, the court acquitted Sorrell of two counts of aggravated sexual assault of a child.
The case has drawn significant attention due to the nature of the allegations and Sorrells’ involvement in the community. According to reports, the incidents involved Sorrells engaging in inappropriate conduct with her son’s 13-year-old friend. The abuse reportedly began in 2023 and included instances where Sorrells provided alcohol and tobacco to her son and his friends. Reportedly, one incident occurred in her car after a football game, and another took place during her son’s birthday party at her home.
The situation came to light when the victim’s mother discovered deleted text messages between Sorrells and the boy, in which she referred to him as “babe.” Once confronted, the boy admitted the abuse. He also told police that in one instance of abuse, Sorrell’s husband called her phone and asked her if she was cheating.

Sorrells was arrested in February and, upon conviction, was sentenced to five years in prison and fined $10,000. Before her arrest, she served as a volunteer at Lakepointe Church in Rockwall.
After Sorrells’ arrest, Lakepointe church said in a statement, “While it is our current understanding that no inappropriate activity occurred on church premises, at any church event, and that the minor involved was not under the direct leadership of the volunteer, out of an abundance of caution we immediately informed Lakepointe parents, restricted the volunteer from any access to minors at the church and removed her from her volunteer position.”
The case has raised concerns about the importance of vigilance in community and volunteer settings, especially when it involves interactions with minors. Authorities and community leaders emphasize the need for thorough background checks and monitoring to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
