Shayne Lavery impresses Blackpool boss in first appearance for the club

Northern Ireland international Shayne Lavery got his Blackpool career off to a flying start after he scored in a 2-0 pre-season friendly victory over Southport on Saturday.

Speaking to the club website, Blackpool manager Neil Critchley said the former Linfield ace "comes alive in the box."

“Strikers love hitting the back of the net, and Shayne is no different,” he said.

“He comes alive in the box and is really positive in the final third. It’s instinctive sometimes with Shayne. You wonder how the ball comes to him in those final moments, but Shayne has that ability to be in the right place at the right time.”

In what was his first outing in tangerine, fans will be pleased that Lavery has shown already what he can do for the newly promoted Championship side.

Lavery left Linfield this season after enjoying two successful years at the club, scoring 47 times in 77 games.

He was named Ulster Footballer of the year and Young Player of the Year last season, while helping the Blues to the Irish League title and Irish cup.

The Aghagallon man has been capped seven times by Northern Ireland.
