Shayne Lavery given new nickname after latest Blackpool goal

Shayne Lavery's latest heroics for Blackpool has earned him a new nickname - the 'Ginger Pele'.

The former Linfield striker was on target once again in Tuesday night's 1-1 draw with Hull City.

Lavery has netted an impressive six goals in 12 appearances for Blackpool this season following his summer move from the Blues, and currently boasts a prolific return of a goal every 61 minutes for the Championship club.

He also scored his first senior international goal for Northern Ireland in this month's World Cup qualifying win over Lithuania in Vilnius.

Tuesday's goal against Hull had Blackpool's fans purring over the 22-year-old striker, with Tom labelling Lavery the 'Ginger Pele'.

Douglas added: "Wot a player we've found ere."

Jason said: "Lavery's on fire your defence is terrified."

Daniel tweeted: "What a player he is becoming."

Billy declared: "Best striker in the leagueeeee!!!!"

Linfield supporter June said: "Oh how I miss watching him play every week!"

Lavery was this week named in Ian Baraclough's Northern Ireland squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Switzerland and Bulgaria.

He is one of four strikers named in the panel.

And while the Green and White Army sing 'We're not Brazil, we're Northern Ireland', they now have a player named after a Brazilian legend on their side.
