Shayne Lavery 'disappointed' not to come away with win against Switzerland

Northern Ireland striker Shayne Lavery admitted feeling an overriding sense of disappointment following Wednesday's 0-0 draw with Switzerland.

Ian Baraclough's side kept their World Cup qualifying hopes alive by earning a spirited point at Windsor Park.

They had to do it the hard way, with Bailey Peacock-Farrell saving a first-half penalty from Haris Seferović.

Lavery also had a golden opportunity as early as the ninth minute, but after racing clear of the Swiss defence the Blackpool striker could only drill his shot wide of the target.

"It is a game where we could have picked up the three points," Lavery told Sky Sports.

"I am still buzzing off the crowd, it was an amazing atmosphere. But overall, I think we are disappointed.

"The crowd helps so much. It has been good having the crowds back this season, and hopefully it continues.

"These 10 days we have had a lot of set-backs with players pulling out and a few injuries and things.

"So to pick up three positive results is great for the lads and the staff."

There was some doubt over Switzerland's penalty, with referee Harald Lechner pointing to the spot after Michael Smith had tangled with Ruben Vargas.

Peacock-Farrell came to the rescue, saving his second penalty in as many matches following his heroics in Vilnius.

"I said in Lithuania I knew he was going to save it, but tonight I was thinking 'surely, not two in a row'," Lavery said.

"But Bailey has been magnificent for us and hopefully he continues to do that."
