Shay Logan Hearts loan from Aberdeen confirmed as right back opens up on 'frustrating' year

Hearts have confirmed the loan signing of Shay Logan as he looks to put a frustrating last year behind him.

The Aberdeen full back arrives at Tynecastle until the end of the Championship season and will provide another defensive option for Robbie Neilson.

However, with the 33-year-old out of contract in the summer and a longer deal to keep him in Gorgie for Hearts ’ inevitable return to the top flight is a possibility.

Neilson had tried to bring in cover at right back earlier this year but was unable to get a deal done.

That seemed to have put paid to any further moves, but after a disastrous week he’s moved to add Logan to his squad.

Michael Smith had been the only fit right back at the club after Jamie Brandon’s injury and Cammy Logan’s loan departure to Cove Rangers.

However, it’s more likely that Smith will be shifted infield to operate alongside Craig Halkett in the centre of defence with Logan taking his spot at right back.

Logan said: “It was something that was brought to me quite quickly and I was more than happy to come. I can get game time and give Hearts a solid right back.

“For me, I just want to get back playing again. It’s been a frustrating year and I’m really looking forward to it.

“I want to help the club get the league wrapped up and show people what I can do. When I play for a football team, be it Aberdeen, Manchester City, Brentford or Hearts, fans will know that I always give 110%.

“I’m fit and raring to go. It’s been a frustrating season so this is a great opportunity for myself and I’m raring to go.”
