Shay Given's brilliant reaction to Mo Salah's Liverpool stunner

Ex-Newcastle goalkeeper Shay Given only had eyes for his steak after Mohammed Salah netted a stunning goal for Liverpool in their 2-0 victory over Chelsea.

The hilarious clip was shared on Twitter after Given was caught by TV cameras mid-munch during Liverpool’s home game against Chelsea in the Premier League yesterday.

It was a match won in a frantic second-half period which saw Liverpool score two goals in as many minutes, sinking Maurizio Sarri’s side and piling more pressure on the Italian manager.

Their second goal was something to behold as Egyptian winger Mohammed Salah cut in from the right and fired a thunderbolt into the top corner, sending Anfield and everyone watching into raptures… but not Shay Given.

Reacting to the wonder goal, fellow pundits Ian Wright and Steve McManaman leapt up from their seats with mouths open wide and arms waving, meanwhile, the former Irish shot stopper appeared unmoved as he continued to tuck into his meal.

The clip was retweeted thousands of times as fans revelled in Given’s nonchalant response to what was an incredible goal, with the ex-Magpie himself also seeing the funny side as he shared it on Twitter and Instagram.

Jonathan Walters, who played with Given during his time at Stoke and Ireland, posted the footage on his Twitter with the caption “Getting that last meal in before summer training #HungryHorse”, prompting Given to respond in similarly light-hearted fashion:

Whilst it is still unclear what the former Premier League star was tucking into, his Instagram caption seems to suggest it was a curry, as Given joked “Think I was more interested in the chicken Mo Salah than the real @Mosalah #Hungryhorse”.

Other footballing figures joined in with the joke, as former Liverpool forward Ian Rush MBE and Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish both responded to the post with laughing emojis.

The footage adds a flurry of fun to what was a joyous day for Liverpool , as the win saw them reclaim a two-point advantage over title rivals City with four games still to play.
