Shay Given highlights Newcastle United's two distinct styles after Tottenham thrashing

Former Newcastle United goalkeeper Shay Given believes that the Magpies' ability to play two distinct styles allows them to be at their best consistently.

Eddie Howe's side demolished top four rivals Tottenham 6-1 at St James' Park, marking the sixth time this season they've scored more than four goals in a Premier League match.

After the display, the former Republic of Ireland international, who made 463 appearances over 12 years for the Magpies, pointed out how Howe's men have both flair and strength which highlights their completeness as a squad.

"Well we were talking about Kieran Trippier before the game with his set piece delivery, but you've got the likes of Dan Burn, [Sven] Botman, [Fabian] Schar, Joelinton," Given told Premier League Productions after the thrashing.

"They have a real physicality about them as well, so they can play some really nice stuff, as we saw some great goals but they can certainly put a few tackles in, win some aerial battles as well.

"In the Premier League, you need to do all of that. You need to play some nice stuff, but you also have to put your foot in as well and they have got that as well."
