A Shawlands nursery has lifted the spirits of local care home residents this Halloween with the creation of a pumpkin patch.
Pied Piper Nursery have worked with staff at Hector House for the project.
The pumpkin patches have been created for children and care home residents to admire as well as the community beyond.
Staff at Pied Piper Nursery have also created an Autumn hamper filled with tea, biscuits and other treats for Hector House residents to enjoy with loved ones as they open for visits once again following coronavirus restrictions.
The nursery and care home have a long-standing relationship. Prior to the pandemic, staff at Pied Piper would take the children to Hector House for activities with the residents, providing sensory experiences, songs and rhymes and nativity rehearsals.
Carrie Lloyd, manager at Pied Piper Nursery, said: " With coronavirus stopping us from visiting the care home residents and carrying out our usual activities, we really wanted to reach out to them in any way we could to give something back in this challenging time. We’ve each created our individual pumpkin patches which we’ve shared with residents and the children via photos on Facebook.
"We wish we could have done even more, but we know this small gesture has made such a difference to everybody’s mood and the children have loved being a part of it."
Angela Todd, manager at Hector House, said: We are so grateful to Pied Piper for working together with us on this. It’s been such a worrying and uncertain time for residents, particularly with Covid restrictions stopping them from being able to see family and friends, so this has really cheered them up."
The community’s Silverburn Tesco branch also got involved in the project, donating a £50 voucher to enable staff to purchase the pumpkins.
