Manchester City have been told to stick with Ferran Torres as their main striker throughout the 2021/2022 season.
In the midst of THE summer transfer saga, the Premier League champions were unable to strike up a deal for Harry Kane as the three-time Golden Boot winner instead pledged his future to Tottenham.
Either side of his Euro 2020 exploits, the England captain was picked out as a priority target for City in the quest to replace club record goalscorer Sergio Aguero - now with Spanish giants Barcelona after a hugely-successful decade at the Etihad Stadium.
In response to high-profile transfers elsewhere in the Premier League, key figures responsible for deals at City did manage to splash out £100million on Jack Grealish from Aston Villa.
However, they ultimately failed in their follow-up pursuit for Kane - as Tottenham priced the 28-year-old out of his own summer switch.
It's a chain of events which has led to Torres being deployed as a central figure in attacking quarters this campaign, a move that Shaun Wright-Phillips labels as correct for his former club right now.
Speaking to Manchester Evening News via an interview with Bonus Finder, the ex-England player said: "Right now they are fine playing Ferran Torres up there on his own.
"He makes those runs in behind and works tirelessly for the team. Even if he doesn't get the ball, he still tries to get into those positions when things aren't going right.
"From the attackers and wingers City have at the club currently, he's the closest to a striker and we have seen that from his performances already this season."
