Shaun Wright-Phillips has a message for Spurs star Danny Rose after his comments on racism

Shaun Wright-Phillips has sent Tottenham Hotspur star Danny Rose a message after his comments on racism - encouraging him to stand strong.

The Spurs left-back spoke out in the week and said that he couldn't wait to see the back of football as a result of the racism in the game and said he was frustrated at the lack of action taken against fans.

It comes after a number of recent incidents at football matches, including England's recent Euro 2020 tie in Montenegro where racist chanting was allegedly directed at several of England's black players, including Rose.

Raheem Sterling was also targeted during that match, with the Manchester City winger also allegedly racially abused at Stamford Bridge in December, while Chelsea's Callum Hudson-Odoi was also targeted in their win at Dynamo Kiev with UEFA investigating the incident.

Meanwhile, Juventus' 19-year-old forward Moise Kean also suffered racist abuse from the stands during a match at Cagliari.

And Wright-Phillips has now had his say on racism in the game, branding it as 'disgusting', while he has issued a message to Rose - to stand strong and show a strong face.

Speaking to BBC programme Football Focus, Wright-Phillips said: "It is very sad. I have had a few conversations about this before and for me, it is disgusting that it is still in the game.

“Some of us go to games with our kids and at certain places, there is a chance they have to witness that and I don’t think it is right. For me, I think the way to handle it is to ban whole sections of fans and soon fans will start policing it themselves.

“He has to stand strong and show a strong face and hopefully they will follow suit and one day this won’t exist anymore.”
