Shaun Woodburn's killer to remain behind bars after being denied parole for second time

The killer of Shaun Woodburn will stay behind bars for at least another six months after he was denied parole for the second time.

Mohammed Ibnomer has have served less than half the four-year term he was handed for killing the dad of one in Edinburgh on Hogmanay 2017.

Ibnomer, who was 16 at the time, will have to wait until September before he can apply again.

He first appeared before the parole board in January but was told he’d have to wait for a decision while reports were examined.

The decision was given to Shaun’s dad, Kevin, who said: "I’m glad this means he will serve most of the ridiculously low sentence he received.

"There are clearly reasons why he keeps being denied his freedom and I’d like to know what they are. We should have a right to know why they don’t think he should be freed.

"In saying that, I’m pleased the public are protected – for a short while at least. The sentence was paltry to begin with. Four years for killing an innocent man was never enough punishment but at least common sense is prevailing."

Ibnomer was sentenced in November 2017 after his conviction for culpable homicide.

Shaun died after being attacked by Ibnomer, now 19, outside Gladstone’s pub in Leith.

Kevin wrote a heartbreaking letter to justice chiefs in a bid to keep his son’s killer behind bars.

The grieving dad doesn’t believe Ibnomer has been rehabilitated or shown any remorse.

Kevin said: “He could have easily written to myself or my family to express his regret and he has not attempted to do so.

"That is not the actions of someone who is sorry."
