Shaun Woodburn's dad demands answers after victims’ champion delay

The father of late Shaun Woodburn has written to Scotland's new justice secretary to ask about a delay in the appointment of a victims’ commissioner for Scotland.

Kevin Woodburn has written to Keith Brown to voice his concerns, reports our sister title the Daily Record.

Ex-justice secretary Humza Yousaf announced in April the SNP planned to appoint a commissioner after a four-year-campaign by Kevin Woodburn.

Shaun was killed by Mohammed Ibnomer, then just 16, in an unprovoked attack in Leith, Edinburgh, on Hogmanay 2016.

Ibnomer and his gang had created mayhem in Edinburgh on the night Shaun died and their rampage across the city culminated in a violent confrontation outside a pub in Leith.

Shaun was an innocent bystander when Ibnomer attacked him and left the 30-year-old with catastrophic head injuries.

Since Shaun’s death a new protocol for multiple post-mortems was also created after Kevin told the SNP Government of the hell his family endured due to the “barbaric and outdated” system.

Kevin said: “I am concerned and dismayed that I have seen or heard nothing from Keith Brown regarding this.

"We are almost five months down the road and there has been no sign of any advancement in the creation of this role.”

A Scottish Government spokesman said: “We remain fully committed to appointing a victims’ commissioner to provide an independent voice for victims.”
