Shaun Rooney taunts Rangers as St Johnstone hero toasts victory with 'drinking they tears' quip

Shaun Rooney has taunted Rangers with a celebratory pint following Sunday night's Scottish Cup drama.

The St Johnstone star sipped a Tennent's as beer gardens reopened on Monday and insisted he was "drinking they tears".

Saints dumped the Premiership champions out of the tournament to remain on course for a stunning domestic double.

The Betfred Cup winners rallied to cancel out James Tavernier's extra-time opener before prevailing in a dramatic penalty shootout.

And a delighted Rooney toasted Saints' incredible win with a post on his Instagram story.

Rangers looked set to take their place in the Hampden semi-finals when Tavernier ghosted in to head home with just three minutes of extra time remaining.

But Saints rallied to force a corner from which keeper Zander Clark headed into the path of Chris Kane who bundled home an equaliser.

With momentum behind them, Callum Davidson 's side held their nerve in the ensuing shootout to earn a return to the national stadium.

St Johnstone lifted the first major trophy of the season back in February with a Betfred Cup Final success over Livingston, with Rooney himself scoring the only goal of the game.
