The right-back known as the 'Bellshill Cafu' nodded home in the 32nd minute to down runners-up Hibs and clinch the Cup Double, in a repeat of his heroics in the Betfred Cup Final against Livingston.
Rooney revealed that new club legend Callum Davidson's team talk was understated in the extreme.
Before sending his troops out to become the first team not named Celtic or Rangers to clinch a double in over 30 years, he simply reminded them it's just a game.
The hero of both finals told Premier Sports: "He just said, 'go and enjoy yourselves, it's a game of football, it's a bag of air you're kicking about'.
"Just go and enjoy yourself and that's it.
"It's amazing and you've got to thank every single one of them, they're all legends, to train and play with them every single week.
"It's incredible so aye, looking forward to next year as well.
Reminded that now the focus turns to a crack at the Europa League - and if not, the Europa Conference League, Rooney replied: "Aye, definitely - and hopefully the league!"
