Shaun Rooney hopes St Johnstone Betfred Cup Final heroics have earned him a day off and 'a few beers'

Goal hero Shaun Rooney joked that he's hoping for a day off from training to celebrate the Betfred Cup Final victory.

Rooney headed in the only goal of the game against Livingston to earn only the second piece of silverware in the Perth Saints history.

However, Rooney revealed on Premier Sports that Callum Davidson had planned for the McDiarmid Park heroes to be in training tomorrow ahead of their midweek Premiership clash with Hamilton.

After earning club legend status, he admits he's hoping the gaffer green lights a day off.

He said: “It’s the third time we’ve been here, second trophy in their history, so it’s massive for the people of Perth so I expect they’ll be partying on into the night.

When asked if he would be able to enjoy a few beers, he added: “I don’t know, we’re meant to be in tomorrow, but we’ll see if we get that day off."

Rooney also paid a touching tribute to his late mum following the historic St Johnstone win.

He said: “I want to thank my mum, who Is obviously not here, but it’s massive for the whole family.

"I think everyone will have a tear in their eye in the family, but we’re absolutely buzzing."
