Shaun Rooney and Craig Bryson help St Johnstone reach Scottish Cup final

Two Lanarkshire stars played their part as St Johnstone reached the Scottish Cup final after a 2-1 win over St Mirren at Hampden.

Craig Bryson, from East Kilbride, and Shaun Rooney, from Bellshill, both played the full 90 minutes as the Saints reached their second cup final of a remarkable season.

Bryson produced an efficient midfield performance as St Johnstone edged possession and attempted 22 shots.

Rooney, in his usual right-wing back role, bombed forward all afternoon and he demonstrated his impressive defensive nous which is often overlooked.

St Johnstone could claim a remarkable cup double this season if they can beat Hibernian in the Scottish Cup final on Saturday, May 22.

They won the League Cup in February with a 1-0 win over Livingston in the final with Rooney the goalscoring hero.

Callum Davidson is enjoying a brilliant first season in management and he will have the chance to emulate his predecessor Tommy Wright by lifting the Scottish Cup.

The Perth side famously won the Scottish Cup under Wright back in 2014 courtesy of a 2-0 win over Dundee United.
