Shaun Maloney reacts to Mugabi and Roberts flashpoints as Hibs boss reveals 'scar on Drey Wright's leg'

Hibs boss Shaun Maloney admits Bevis Mugabi's lunge that saw the Motherwell man sent off "didn't look great."

The Scottish Cup clash was turned on it's head when referee Willie Collum sent centre-back Mugabi off for a challenge on Josh Doig in the opening seconds.

The visitors took advantage of the extra man with Elias Melkersen netting a double on his first start for the club.

Joe Efford's deflected effort proved to only be a consolation for The Steelmen as Hibs reached the semi-final.

When asked about Mugabi's sending off on BBC Sportsound, Maloney said: "I've not seen it, I've only seen it from a wide angle, but it doesn't look great.

"There wasn't much complaints in terms of a red card.

"Josh is struggling a bit but these things happen."

Motherwell man Jordan Roberts could have been given his marching orders moments after Mugabi's lunge, but Maloney was coy on if the challenge on Drey Wright was a red card offence.

When asked about the tackle, he added: "I've not seen that again either. I've seen the scar on Drey's leg, but whether it's a red or not I'm not sure yet."

Having secured a return to Hampden for the Hibees, Maloney was keen to continue to build momentum in the cup and Scottish Premiership.

He went on: "It's not the time to stop or be very happy, we have to keep pushing.

"The performances have been good in the last few weeks. It's a great achievement to get to Hampden again, with a very young team but we need to keep pushing.

"We need to try and achieve top six, but to get to the semi-final with this young team is very good, but we want more."
