Former Scotland star Shaun Maloney is now the leading candidate to become the next Dundee manager.
The ex-Hibs boss is the man the Dens Park side want as their new boss.
Dundee had cut their shortlist down from five to two with Maloney and Jack Ross the main two candidates.
It is understood that the Taysiders have been unable to agree a deal with Ross and they are now focusing on Maloney.
It now remains to be seen if they can convince the former Celtic and Scotland star to take up the job of getting Dundee out of the Championship at the first-time of asking.
Maloney has other coaching options and everything would need to be right for him to walk straight back into management.
The one thing in his favour is that his former Scotland and Celtic manager Gordon Strachan has agreed to take a more hands-on approach at Dundee.
Maloney’s only previous spell as manager was a short spell at Hibs earlier this season.
Before that he coached at Celtic and was assistant to Roberto Martinez at Belgium.
Dundee have been on the lookout for a new manager since Mark McGhee stepped down following their relegation from the Premiership.
