Shaun Harvey's EFL severance payment reportedly comes to light

Former English Football League chief executive Shaun Harvey earned more than £1 million in his final year due to a severance payment, according to The Athletic.

The figure is allegedly set to be revealed in the league's next set of annual accounts, which are yet to be officially published.

Those accounts will be approved by February 6 and published next month.

The Athletic state that the 49-year-old former Leeds United chief executive's annual salary and pension contributions rose from £448,000 in 2018 to £495,000 last year, with the £511,658 pay-off on top. Harvey was paid roughly £150,000 a year when he took the job in 2013.

In light of overspending from a number of EFL clubs in recent years which Harvey is claimed to have ineffectively managed, fans across the football league will no doubt be irate at the financial news.

However, attendances and revenues also rose during Harvey's time at the EFL.

But ultimately the Yorkshireman departed last summer after a row over the football league's broadcast deal with Sky Sports, with Championship sides taking aim at him for not getting a better deal than the £595 million agreed over five seasons.
