Shaun Goater predicts major Manchester City problem waiting on the horizon

Pep Guardiola will take charge of his sixth season with Manchester City when the English top-flight returns in May.

The Spaniard guided the club to their fifth Premier League title, eighth League Cup and the Champions League final last campaign with the latter ending in a 1-0 defeat against Chelsea.

His style of play has seen him on the receiving end of plenty of compliments and one of several key reasons why star players want to join City.

However, his reign in Manchester will one day come to an end and could happen as soon as June 30 2023 with Guardiola’s contract set to expire then.

When the 50 year old does eventually leave the club, City legend Shaun Goater thinks they’ll find it ‘difficult’ to replace last year’s Premier League’s Manager of the Season.

Speaking to TribalFootball.com , on behalf of FreeSuperTips, the former fan favourite said: "They will be huge shoes to fill, the trophies and the success he's [Guardiola] had here has set a very high standard.

"When the day comes that he decides to call it a day and someone fills those shoes it'll be difficult.”

He continued: "Pep has educated every last one of us City fans with his style of play.

“A goalkeeper who's amazing on the ball, quality midfielders, playing with a false or inverted full-back.

"Last season we saw Cancelo who would end up as a number ten at times from full-back, so Pep has evolved and educated us all. Every neutral watching City will have been educated and loved watching how Pep Guardiola goes about his business.

"It's been beautiful to watch and observe week in week out."

City defend their Premier League title starting with an away trip to Tottenham Hotspur on August 15.
