Shaun Burton named as driver killed in Bedford train crash

  • Shaun Burton, a 60-year-old driver, has been identified as the fatality in a train crash near Bedford on Friday evening.
  • The incident occurred shortly after 5pm when the East Midlands Railway (EMR) train Burton was driving collided with the rear of another train on the same line.
  • Approximately 100 other individuals sustained injuries in the collision, which involved the 4:40 pm departure from Corby hitting the 3:50 pm departure from Nottingham, both bound for London St Pancras.
  • Burton's family expressed their devastation and requested privacy, while Network Rail has described the crash as a "tragic, isolated incident" and initiated a complex recovery operation.
  • The recovery of the damaged trains and subsequent repairs are expected to cause significant disruption to rail services throughout the upcoming week.
