Shattered window after bullets sprayed at house on quiet street

Police remained at the scene in a residential street where shots were fired last night.

Officers were called to Dingle to reports of damage being caused to a home at around 8.45pm yesterday (Friday, January 8).

The window of one property in Sundridge Street - still with its Christmas decorations hanging up - could be seen shattered this morning.

The damage was confirmed as being caused by a firearm. Nobody was injured but the occupants of the house were left extremely shaken.

Police and forensics officers were today outside the property, located in a row of terraced housing, while investigations into the incident continued.

The area around Sundridge Street was cordoned off at both ends in the hours after the incident.

A resident nearby described to the ECHO hearing a rapid succession of bangs that evening.

Following the incident yesterday, Detective Inspector Lisa Ryan said : "At this stage, we are keeping an open mind as to the reasons behind this incident.

"To fire a gun towards homes is incredibly reckless and could easily have ended in tragedy. Thankfully, although the occupants were left understandably shocked, nobody was injured on this occasion.

"We work hard alongside the community and partners to tackle gun crime and other serious and organised crime in all our communities, which has led to decreasing numbers of incidents in the last few years.

POLICE CORDON OFF SUNDRIDGE STREET IN DINGLE

"But key to bringing those responsible to justice is information provided by those people who live in the area and find themselves affected.

"If you saw, heard or captured anything in the area of Sundridge Street around 8.45 tonight (Friday), please come forward and we will take action. Your CCTV, dashcam or witness account could make all the difference."
