The sharp rise of anti-social behaviour on DART services has been slammed as “utterly unacceptable”.
In 2019, there were a total of 190 reports of antisocial behaviour across the DART network and the same number in 2017.
But in 2019, there have been 210 reports to date recorded by the company.
Fianna Fail’s justice spokesperson Jim O’Callaghan has slammed the numbers saying this problem has to be urgently addressed.
He said: “There has been a sharp rise in the number of incidents of anti-social behaviour on Public Transport in recent times, which is utterly unacceptable.
“More needs to be done to curb this type of behaviour, particularly given the number of people who commute to work using public transport systems.”
Just last week a woman was taken to a South Dublin Garda Station after a passenger was allegedly slapped in the face while a number of people were verbally abused on a DART.
Mr O'Callaghan added: “This year there has been another sharp rise in the number of incidents on the DART network and those who are continuing to disrupt commuter lines with this type of behaviour need to realise that their actions have consequences and we need to see a tougher approach when it comes to stamping out this type of attitude.”
