A SHARP drop in support for Fianna Fail is down to the mishandling of the pandemic and mixed messaging, Sinn Fein believes.
Approval for Taoiseach Micheal Martin’s party has nose dived to 10%, in the Business Post/Red C poll.
This is down 5% from 15% support in May and represents the lowest support ever recorded in such a poll.
And Dubliners are even less impressed, with just 4% supporting Fianna Fail
Fine Gael is at 35% - with voters showing much greater support for the way in which it handled the pandemic under Leo Varadkar’s leadership.
Voters still show strong support for Sinn Fein and Mary Lou McDonald’s party is at 27% .
Sinn Fein finance spokesman Pearse Doherty told the Irish Mirror: “These poll results reflect increasing frustration among the public at this Government’s mishandling of the pandemic.
“Recent months have been characterised by confusion and chaos. We have seen infighting, u-turns, scandals and contradictory messages. At this vital stage, people need to see clear, competent leadership they can trust.
His party colleague Senator Paul Gavan said Fianna Fail’s decline is a direct result of the party “no longer standing for anything”.
He added: “The massive growth in inequality and the current health and housing crises can all be traced directly back to their time in power.”
Catherine Murphy, co-leader of the Social Democrats, said the Government lacks cohesion.
She told the Irish Mirror: “It is contributing to loss of goodwill.
“There is nothing to distinguish Fianna Fail from Fine Gael.
“However, Fine Gael are continuing to benefit from Covid, and even though they are in Government together, Fianna Fail are being blamed for chaos.”
Support for Ms Murphy’s party is at 4%, while Labour is on 3% and 2% for Solidarity-PBP.
