Sharon Stone says those upset over Christian Bale’s past on-set rant ‘should just grow up’

Sharon Stone has defended Christian Bale over criticism he has previously received concerning his behaviour on set.

During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, when Stone was asked whether she would like to apologise for any outbursts she may have had on set, the actor took the opportunity instead to defend Bale.

Stone said: “Christian Bale, who completely transforms himself into someone else, whether he’s playing [Dick Cheney] (Vice) or whether he’s playing an anorexic (The Machinist) or whether he’s playing an OCD, you know, stockbroker (The Big Short), he becomes a different person.”

In 2009, a video emerged of Bale screaming at a cinematographer who had walked onto the set of Terminator Salvation to check a light during the filming of a scene. During the rant, Bale also threatened to smash the lighting equipment.

While the Oscar winner apologised for the incident, his actions were defended by Stone, who said those who criticised him for his behaviour should “grow up”.

“People want to get up in his business while he’s trying to completely transform into another person,” said Stone.

“Then he’s like, ‘Get away from me!’ and they want to criticise him for not being available to them. I find that a little bit… you know, maybe they should just grow up.”

Last week, Stone revealed she was told to have sex with a co-star and was also misled about an explicit shot while filming 1992’s erotic thriller Basic Instinct.
