Sharon Stone falls for the Big Yin in new movie

It must rank as one of the most improbable movie couplings of all time.

Sharon Stone falls hopelessly in love with Billy 'Big Yin' Connolly, who plays a florist's assistant in the new black movie comedy Beautiful Joe.

The movie has been made in Vancouver, Canada by producers Steven Haft and Fred Fuchs, the team behind Gwyneth Paltrow's Emma and Robin Williams's Dead Poets Society.

Billy was picked for the role by Sharon Stone herself after seeing Billy in Mrs Brown. Needless to say the humour of an ex-Govan welder playing a romantic role with Sharon Stone is not lost on Billy.

What's more, the shaggy Scotsman has shaved off his hair and will be seen bald in the story, in which he plays a character who requires brain surgery for a deadly tumour.

The sexual chemistry between La Stone and La Scot remains to be seen. But he has assured his former actress wife Pamela Stephenson that there are no Basic Instinct-like situations with the blonde sex siren.

"They actually do have a love scene," says a production source. "But it is low key. Pamela had nothing to fear from Sharon!"

• Beautiful Joe will be released in the US later this summer; no UK release date has yet been announced
