Sharon Osbourne defends Rebel Wilson and tells weight loss trolls to 'leave her alone'

Sharon Osbourne has told Rebel Wilson 's weight loss critics to "leave her alone!".

The Australian actress, 40, has shed three stone after going on a health kick in 2020, but she's faced a backlash from trolls.

She spoke about the vicious messages she's received during an appearance on Ant Middleton's Straight Talking series and now Sharon Osbourne has waded in to defend her.

The former X Factor judge, 68, insisted she understands how Rebel feels as she went through her own weight loss journey following gastric bypass surgery in 1999.

Speaking on US chat show The Talk, Sharon said: "It's [the trolling] so wrong.

"I've been there. I've been in those shoes. I know how you feel.

"The woman wanted to lose weight. She feels great. She looks great.

"She must be healthier. She must be happier and just leave her alone."

Sharon went on to insist Rebel is still the "same person" and will still be the funny actress fans all love.

She added: "Let her enjoy her achievement because it is a huge achievement.

"It's got nothing to do with her being funny or not. She's the same person.

"She has the same soul, the same brain and she will be the Rebel Wilson we all love. Don't be so rude. Leave people alone."

Rebel opened up about the trolling she faced during a chat with Ant on his Sky One series.

The actress explained she doesn't want to make other women feel bad by sharing her health journey.

She said: "It's hard because I was so self-confident and don't want to project a message to people that girls can't be happy with themselves at bigger, plus sizes, because I was living the life."

However, Rebel has found the trolling tough to take: "People go 'you're not the same, you're not funny anymore', and I'm like, 'screw you guys!'"

Ant then pointed out male stars are often lauded for their weight loss, pointing out Matthew McConaughey won an Oscar after losing 3.5 stone for his role in Dallas Buyers club.

Rebel responded: "Yeah, and they're like 'give him an Oscar'. But when women do it, it's like 'how dare she?' Or 'she's trying to get a man'."
