Sharon Osbourne almost left in tears on TV following heated Piers Morgan debate

The Piers Morgan and Meghan Markle debate is still rumbling on stateside as Sharon Osbourne has been left near tears following a heated discussion with her co-host on US TV's The Talk.

The 68-year-old had previously defended the former Good Morning Britain presenter and her co-host Sheryl Underwood questioned her actions.

Sheryl kicked off the debate by saying: "What would you say to people who may feel that while you're standing by your friend, it appears you gave validation or safe haven to something that he has uttered that is racist, even if you don't agree."

Sharon bit back that she doesn't find it fair that she can be accused of racism just because of her friendship with Piers.

"I very much feel like I'm about to be put in the electric chair because I have a friend, who many people think is a racist, so that makes me a racist?" she replied.

"What does it gotta do with me?"

The discussion cut to a break, but Sharon could be heard muttering censored expletives.

When the pair returned, it appeared as though Sheryl was trying to defuse the situation, telling viewers that she didn't want them to think they were attacking Sharon for being racist.

But the former X Factor judge replied: "It's too late. I think that seed's already sowed."

Sharon had previously tweeted her support towards Piers, saying: "I am with you. I stand by you. People forget that you’re paid for your opinion and that you’re just speaking your truth."

Piers retweeted the comment with a message saying that you find out who your "true friends" are "when stuff like this happens".

Continuing to defend her actions on the show, Sharon told the US presenter that she still doesn't understand how her friend's comments were said in a racist manner.

She said: "If he doesn't like someone, and I think this is for everybody who isn't born white, if Piers doesn't like someone and they happen to be Black, does that make him racist?

"Why can't it be that he just doesn't like her? Why does it have to be racist?"

The debate finished with Sharon agreeing that Piers' dislike for Meghan may in some way be motivated by his loyalty to the royal family.
