ANAHEIM, Calif. _ Timo Meier scored the game-winning goal in overtime, his team-leading eighth of the season.
The Sharks completed a funky road trip to Nashville, North Carolina and Southern California Sunday with a 2-0-1 record by picking up a 4-3 overtime win over the Anaheim Ducks.
Logan Couture opened the scoring at 2:34 of the first, firing in the rebound of a Burns shot off the end boards into a gaping net. Tomas Hertl also earned a point on the play.
By picking up the primary assist, Burns extended his point streak to eight games (2 goals, 11 assists).
Though the Sharks outshot the Ducks 19-8 in the opening frame, they went into the first intermission locked in a tie game. Josh Manson got the Ducks on the board at 4:16 by bouncing a backhanded shot in off defenseman Justin Braun.
The Sharks kept pouring it on in the second. Rourke Chartier scored his first NHL goal at 2:13, spinning and sweeping in the rebound of a Hertl shot. Meier, who also earned a point on Chartier's goal, made it 3-1 at 4:10 by scoring his seventh goal. Meier blasted in a one-timer from Couture after Erik Karlsson sent them off on the rush with a long-stretch pass through the neutral zone.
With a three-point night, Meier extended his point streak to eight games, earning 10 points (6 goals, 4 assists) over that stretch.
The Ducks cut the Sharks lead to 3-2 with just 3:01 remaining in the second. Pontus Aberg beat Jones to the near post thanks to a fortunate bounce of Burns' leg. Aberg tied the game at 8:36 of the third, using some fancy stick work to get through Joakim Ryan and beat Jones after Meier coughed up the puck on a hit from Manson in the neutral zone.
