Recreational boaters off the Eden coastline, on the NSW far south coast, have come across tiger sharks and a great white shark feeding on a sperm whale carcass.
The spectators got up close to the feeding frenzy, with sharks swimming beneath their boat.
"Look at that big [one] underneath and there's another big one underneath that as well."
According to the boaters, tiger sharks feasted on the carcass throughout Wednesday morning.
"Look it's just right underneath us," a spectator said.
"It's coming up to the boat."
One boater, Ron Cummings, said the tiger sharks scattered when the great white came along for a bite.
"The white pointer was in the afternoon," he said.
Water police urge caution
While the exact location of the whale carcass is now unknown, the NSW Marine Area Command is urging boaters to steer clear of any sharks or whale carcasses in the water.
Detective Chief Inspector for the Marine Area Command Damian Beaufils said sharks could be particularly dangerous to smaller vessels.
"Any of those sharks could come into contact with their boats and disable their engines or their motors which would place them at significant risk," he said.
Detective Chief Inspector Beaufils said being in close proximity to feeding frenzies could put everyone at risk.
"It would certainly cause risk to them and to us having to tow them out of that area," he said.
