Shark bites man's arm and refuses to let go after 'friend bet him £75 to grab it'

A man had a shark biting his arm for more than 20 minutes after a friend reportedly bet him to touch it.

The nurse shark latched on to the man's upper arm and refused to let go, after the beach goer reportedly tried to grab it.

Emergency crews were sent to Jensen Beach in Florida, USA on Sunday to help the lifeguard get the man's arm free.

Lifeguard Brian Bricious said: "A beach patron came up to the tower and advised me that this guy needed help out on the sandbar with a shark that was stuck to his arm.

“Just when you think you’ve seen it all, something comes along and surprises you.

“These sharks typically need to be provoked, they’re very docile, they’re very slow moving, they’re easy to grab their tail or something like that."

Estate agent Jeremy Porter was at the beach and filmed the incident, before later sharing the incident on Facebook.

Mr Porter said the man's friend had bet him $100 (about £75) that wouldn’t touch or grab the shark.

He said: "All, please know, this shark did not go after this guy.

"This guy grabbed the shark and the shark bite him. Hopefully lesson learned for this guy."

In the video, first responders are seen pouring alcohol into the creature’s mouth to try to get it to let go.

One onlooker suggested punching the predator on its nose, as he'd seen "then do it on the Discovery Channel", but this was not done.

Martin County Fire Department also attended. An official spokesman said the man most likely agitated the shark, causing it to latch on.

After around 20 minutes the animal released its grip and it was put back in the ocean.
