Shark attack kills 39-year-old man while fishing off Queensland coast near Hull Heads, just a week after another fatal incident in Western Australia

Hull Heads shark attack: A 39-year-old man has died following a shark attack near Hull Heads in Far North Queensland. Emergency services were called to the Hull River boat ramp, around 160 kilometers south of Cairns, shortly after 12 p.m. local time after receiving reports of a shark attack, as per ABC News Australia.

The man had allegedly been fishing at Kennedy Shoal, a shallow reef located about 50 kilometers offshore between Cairns and Townsville, the Guardian reported.

He later died from his injuries after being brought ashore. “The man was retrieved from the water and died from his injuries,” news.com.au reported, citing a police spokesperson.

Queensland police said it would prepare a report for the coroner “following the sudden and non-suspicious death of a 39-year-old man” in the Cassowary Coast area, The Guardian reported.

The incident marks the second fatal shark attack in Australian waters, following the death of a 38-year-old Perth man off Rottnest Island on May 16.
