The Sharjah International Foundation for the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences (SIFHAMS) at the University of Sharjah will organize next month the 4th International Conference on the History of Arab and Muslim Sciences.
The event, “Scientific Legacy and its Contemporary Impacts”, is being held in cooperation with the University of Cologne in Germany and the King Abdulaziz University in Saudi Arabia.
It will take place from April 4 to 6.
President of the conference and Director of the University of Sharjah, Dr. Hamid Al-Naimiy said the event “aspires in its fourth edition to present a clear and ambitious vision for the future of studies related to the history of science for Arabs and Muslims.”
“We hope to consolidate the status of the SIFHAMS as a hub for scholars and researchers from across the globe interested in the history of Arab and Muslim sciences,” he added.
Dr. Hussein Al-Mahdi, chairman of the conference organizing committee, said many themes and topics would be discussed at the event, including the milestones that propelled the Arabic and Islamic civilization to their golden ages.
He added that the subject of the impact of technology in analyzing, understanding and studying the Arab-Islamic heritage would also be addressed.
Mahdi pointed out that, so far, more than 200 research papers have been received, 120 of which have been accepted after being reviewed. They will be presented and discussed over the course of the conference, which is expected to be attended by scholars and researchers from countries across the globe, including more than 30 Arabic and Islamic countries.
The research papers will heavily focus on the theme of science and medicine during the rise of the Islamic civilization. Topics such as the advances in the fields of ophthalmology, internal medicine, pediatrics, algebra, geography and architecture will be explored.
Other topics will cover the challenges and difficulties in reviving and preserving the Arab and Islamic scientific heritage, as well as the current role of Arab scientists in advancing science and technology.
