Share your Walter Smith Rangers memories in our online condolence book

The Daily Record has opened an online book of condolence following the passing of Walter Smith.

A colossus of Scottish football, the Ibrox club announced that their history making nine-in-a-row boss passed away on Tuesday following surgery in March of this year.

Smith fulfilled a lifelong dream by managing his boyhood heroes during the 1990s after succeeding Graeme Souness, whom he initially assisted at the Light Blues, and led the club to an historic nine consecutive titles.

Of course, after departing Ibrox in 1998 and taking over at Premier League side Everton, Smith would then go on to assist Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, before managing Scotland between 2004 and 2007.

Smith then returned to Rangers for a second stint in charge of the Light Blues and won 21 trophies during his combined spells with the Glasgow giants, as well as reaching the 2008 UEFA Cup Final in Manchester against Russian cracks Zenit St. Petersburg.

Smith is one of Scottish football's most beloved characters, and at times seemed to transcend the Old Firm rivalry between Rangers and Celtic, which is evidenced by the outpouring of tributes this afternoon.

Whether you remember him as a Rangers titan, a formidable Scotland boss, or simply as a respected member of the football community, feel free to leave your messages of condolences and favourite memories of the great man in the comments box above.
