You can’t please some people. Put together a gallery of underwhelming UK holiday experiences, and all they do is moan.

In the four corners of social media, certain Brexit supporters were wondering why the Guardian was asking for pictures of disappointing UK trips to rainy campsites, windswept beaches and theme parks that have seen better days.

Humour was ruled out as a possibility. No, this must be an attempt to talk Britain down, just when we should be taking pride.

And surely other countries are disappointing too?

Well, Jacqui. Our theory was there’s something quintissentially British about miserable holidays – think of it as a factor of the rainy climate and a certain melancholy of the soul. I’m off to Dartmoor on Friday, and frankly I expect it to rain. I won’t know what to do with myself if there’s nothing to complain about.

Also, we hate Britain and want to do it down.

But we understand where you’re coming from. British people can be miserable abroad too. And as parts of the UK bask in unlikely August sunshine, perhaps it’s time to hear from people having a gently terrible time in foreign climes.

Wherever you are in the world, if you’re enjoying half-built resorts, miserable rain or other minor setbacks, we want to hear from you. Perhaps your hovercraft is full of eels, or your desert island beset by tat, crap and other disappointment. The GuardianWitness team anxiously awaits your photographs.
