On 1 November 1929, the Manchester Guardian launched three Christmas competitions, one of which was a drawing contest where ‘grown-ups’ were invited to draw ‘a domestic scene’, ‘a street scene’ or a Christmas scene. The competition ran for a month with the paper publishing the best entries each day.
To accompany the gallery from the Guardian archive, we’d like you to share your drawings or photos of Christmas scenes. Tell us about the image too, and your memories of the day it was taken? We’ll publish the best contributions in a gallery on the website.
Share your drawings and photos by clicking on the blue ‘Contribute’ buttons. Or if you’re out and about you can download the GuardianWitness app or look for our assignments in the new Guardian app and search for ‘GuardianWitness assignments’ – and if you add it to the homepage – you can keep up with all our assignments.
- GuardianWitness is the home of user-generated content on the Guardian. Contribute your video, pictures and stories, and browse news, reviews and creations submitted by others. Posts will be reviewed prior to publication on GuardianWitness, and the best pieces will feature on the Guardian site.
