The first month in any new job is stressful. But for teachers it’s not just management they have to impress – there’s a class full of children to win over too.
From getting to grips with marking and planning, to handling parents and staffroom politics – there’s a myriad of challenges to face. But there’s also lots of fun to be had: a timetable full of students means lots of inspiring and interesting characters, whizz-bang lessons, getting stuck into after-school clubs and decorating your classroom – to name just a few.
We want to know how it’s going for newly qualified teachers who are in the throes of their first month in the classroom. We want to hear about your triumphs and horror stories – everything from the sublime to the ridiculous. If you’ve got a story to tell, no matter how bizarre or banal, we want to hear it.
More importantly, if you’ve found the first few weeks particularly difficult, tell us what has made it so hard. How could the profession be more welcoming? What would have made your first few weeks easier?
