Ball, make records, repeat. At least, that's what you do when you're Shaquem Griffin at the NFL scouting combine.
The former UCF linebacker posted a 4.38 40-yard dash during his first run Sunday afternoon _ the fastest time in his position group since the league started clocking times in 2003. He clocked a 4.58 during his second run.
Coincidentally, Griffin's first run was identical to his twin brother, Shaquill Griffin, who ran a 4.38 at the combine last year.
Shaquem Griffin's impressive sprint came just one day after he sent fans, NFL executives, media members and fellow combine participants abuzz when he hit a personal record 20 reps in the bench press.
The speedy time isn't a complete surprise for the former track star from St. Petersburg, Fla. The Griffin twins were multi-year high school state track performers and developed a youth track club when they were just 15 years old.
Griffin promised critics he would surprise them with his speed before the drill.
"It was going up each and every day, you know, when you wake up at for in the morning, you don't really feel the juices flowing when you wake up, but as time went on, I shot through the roof," Griffin said of his adrenaline coming into the week. "I don't know what was going on, but I felt like I could start curling 225 right now. Come (Sunday), I'm pretty sure the adrenaline will be crazy. I'm excited about tomorrow. If I feel this good right now, I can't wait to see how I am tomorrow."
