Shaq tells the heartwarming story of paying for a stranger’s engagement ring

Shaquille O’Neal likes to perform random acts of kindness — and while he says he doesn’t like to talk about them, one of those acts got captured on social media.

The former NBA star and current TNT analyst was shopping in a jewelry store this week when he overheard a man talking through how he was going to pay for his engagement ring.

So Shaq picked up the bill.

“I see the guy come in and he was just so shy and he was saying, ‘Hey, how much do I owe to pay off my ring?’ I just said, ‘My man, how much is the ring?'” Shaq said during a segment on TNT. “Young kid — he’s a hardworking guy — he’s like, ‘Hey man, I can come back the next month and the next.’ At first he was like, ‘I can’t take it.’ I was like, ‘Don’t worry about it. I do this all the time.’ I’m just trying to make people smile.”

Apparently, Shaq does this a fair amount. He recently paid for another person’s furniture when he was out shopping.

“I’m into making people happy. Whenever I leave the house, I just try to do a good deed,” Shaq said.

That’s freaking awesome. What a nice thing for Shaq to do.
