Shanti Celeste’s favourite tracks

Shanti Celeste
My name is Shanti and I’m live on stage

The track I’ll be opening my next DJ set with
Candido: Thousand Finger Man

This has a long intro which is something I look for with the first track I play. I’ve been opening my sets with it a lot recently. I love the piano - it’s a disco banger.

The track I always play to rescue a dancefloor
Mr Beatnick: Parallax Scroll (Don’t Be Afraid)

I’ve been lucky that I’ve been playing parties with amazing crowds that don’t need rescuing!

The track I think has been unfairly slept on this year
Strategy: Blackberry’s Dream

Weird and wonderful.

The track I wish I’d never played
Head High: It’s A Love Thing (Piano Invasion)

I didn’t realise that the piano didn’t kick in until about four minutes in. Everyone lost interest before the piano drop. Oops! It’s still a banger, though.

The track by my favourite new artist
Creta Kano: Skyway Motel

Quite fruity and not as rugged as a lot of electro tracks. Lots of beautiful melodies.

The track I’d play at sunset in ibiza
Trackheadz: Our Music

Or anything else emotive that will tug at the heartstrings of the “garried away” Ibiza party people.

The track that got me out of bed this morning
Larry Heard: Missing You

After I’ve had scrambled eggs and coffee, in bed, obviously, I need something that isn’t too banging, but energetic and uplifting.

The ideal festival track
Earth People: Dance

Sunshine house music with a disco twist.

The track I wish I’d signed to my label
Mood II Swing: Do It Your Way

Almost the perfect house record.

The track I’d play at my auntie’s wedding
Donald Byrd & 125th Street NYC: Love Has Come Around

I think this has a very wedding-esque intro. It’s about love, it’s uplifting, and everybody likes disco at a wedding, right?

The track that should have been a crossover hit
Davina: Don’t You Want It

Originally released in 92; could have been as big as Crystal Waters’s Gypsy Woman or Robin S’s Show Me Love.

The track I’d play at my funeral
Mother’s Finest: Love Changes

I don’t want anything sad being played at my funeral. It should be a celebration of love and life.

Shanti Celeste plays Field Day, Victoria Park, London, Sat 6 June
