Shannen Doherty vows never to give up living after stage 4 cancer returns

Beverly Hills, 90210 star Shannen Doherty has defiantly insisted she won't give up on life after confirming the cancer she thought had vanished has returned.

Three years after doctors gave her the all-clear, the 48-year-old actress burst into tears on Good Morning America as she confirmed her aggressive breast cancer is back.

Shannen was first diagnosed with cancer in 2015 but after treatment was told there was no trace of it left in 2017.

She then found out she's fighting stage 4 of the disease in February last year, but decided to keep it private.

Hours after her emotional appearance, Shannen shared a defiant message to her Instagram.

She posted a panel from the comic strip Peanuts, showing Charlie Brown telling his pet pooch: "We only live once, Snoopy."

"Wrong," the beagle says back. "We only die once. We live every day!"

Shannen needed no caption, letting the image speak for itself.

But her celebrity friends and pals rushed to support her, with Sarah Michelle Gellar writing: "Beautifully said, my beautiful friend.

"I get to live my life with you, that makes me the lucky one."

Kate Beckinsale and Rob Weiss added rows of red hearts, while Selma Blair - who herself is battling multiple sclerosis - wrote: "ou are lighting up the path. You are loved."

During yesterday's TV interview, Shannen revealed why she kept her diagnosis out of the limelight - due to her ongoing lawsuit against insurance company State Farm over damage to her home from a 2018 wildfire.

"It's going to come out in a matter of days or week that I am stage 4, my cancer came back and that’s why I am here," she told GMA.

"It’s a bitter pill to swallow in a lot of ways. I'm petrified. I'm pretty scared."

She explained how her house was damaged in the Wolseley fire and that she is trying to make a claim against State Farm to repair some of the damage.

The company says it has paid her $1.1million but she believes she is entitled to more.

"I'd rather people hear it from me. I don't want it to be twisted, a court document. I want it to be real and authentic," she added.

"I want to control the narrative. I want people to know from me."

Shannen was left devastated last year when her 90210 co-star and pal Luke Perry died at the age of 52 after a shock stroke.

She paid tribute to the actor by posting a series of sweet pictures on Instagram and shared a poignant note in memory of her friend of more than 20 years.

"Yesterday morning I got a phone call that devastated me," she wrote at the time.

"I'm struggling with this loss and am having a hard time with my thoughts.

"But, my heart goes out to his family and friends who were blessed by his light in their (and mine) lives

"Processing this is impossible right now."
