Shankill Road 'stabbing' incident discounted by sources

Rumours of a stabbing in the Shankill Road area have been discounted this evening.

Sources with a knowledge of what happened earlier today say a car appears to have left the road close to a well known bar in the area.

A number of images of police at the scene of the incident have been widely circulated via social media and WhatsApp. They appear to show around half a dozen officers at the scene gathered around someone or something on the ground. Members of the public can be seen in the background.

However, claims that someone was stabbed have been dismissed by police sources who have indicated there were no injuries.

The incident unfolded at around 6.40pm. However a number of sources who were in the area soon after said it was back to “business as usual” with no significant police activity.

The PSNI has not yet issued a formal statement on the incident to clarify if any arrests were made or what happened to any vehicle involved in the incident.
