Shankill Road restaurant is a "unique concept" for area

A new restaurant project on the Shankill Road could help reinvigorate the area's night-time economy.

Opening from August 15 at the Spectrum Centre, it's something unique on the Shankill which has plenty of cafés but aside from bars tends to close up early in the evening.

Chef Eamonn Duffy, from West Belfast, is partnering with centre to open an evening time 'supper club' from Thursday to Sunday.

Eamonn hopes that his new restaurant can help boost the road and give local people an option that they haven't had before.

He told Belfast Live: "I've worked in everything from a bistro, to pub grub, to high end.

"We're going to be really good food with plenty of flavour done right.

"If I was starting from scratch I'd probably be three or four years away but thanks to the Spectrum Centre I've the opportunity now.

"I looked up and down that road and there are lots of takeaways and lots of cafés for the day time - but I don't see much for night-time eating.

"There are 24,000 people in that small demographic area. Why not have something there in the area where people can go for good food, where it's affordable?

"The dearest thing on the menu is 16 oz sirloin steak which is £24 but that's with all the trimmings.

"My idea, which I really hope people get behind, is local produce from local suppliers in the area, fresh every day at affordable prices."

The restaurant will be opening from Thursday to Saturday evenings from 5pm to 10pm, with a carvery and tapas bar on Sundays.

Shankill Mission

DUP Councillor Nicola Verner, who works at the Spectrum Centre, told Belfast Live that it's a new concept for the road.

She said: "We are delighted to partner with Eamonn to bring fine food and a new dining experience to greater shankill.

"I’m sure the community will enjoy the fresh menu, range of food in an relaxed, family friendly atmosphere."
