Shankill Road car fire: Vehicle set on fire in suspected arson attack

A car has been set on fire in a suspected arson attack on the Shankill Road.

The Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a car fire at around 1.28pm on Friday, November 5, close to the Rangers Supporters Club.

One appliance was sent to the scene with firefighters in breathing apparatus dealing with the blaze by 1.52pm.

The fire is being treated as deliberate ignition.

A NIFRS spokesperson said: "Firefighters were called to reports of a car on fire earlier this afternoon. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used one hose reel to extinguish the fire.

"The cause of the fire is being treated as deliberate ignition and the incident was dealt with by 1.52pm."

Meanwhile, in a separate incident police attended a two vehicle collision on the Antrim Road at around 1.45pm on Friday.

The incident involved a Vauxhall Corsa and a Mercedes Sprinter van.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Police attended the scene of a two vehicle road traffic collision on the Antrim Road in north Belfast this afternoon (Friday, 5th November).A Vauxhall Corsa and a Mercedes Sprinter van were involved in the collision at around 1.45pm."
