Shankill Christmas tree lights to be switched on by Rangers legend Mark Hateley

Rangers legend Mark Hateley will switch on the Shankill Christmas Tree Lights at the end of this month.

The iconic former Ibrox striker has been confirmed for the festive party on Friday, November 29.

Greater Shankill ACT confirmed on Tuesday that Hateley will be this year's VIP guest.

The Christmas Lights switch-on will form part of the Greater Shankill Winter Festival.

Greater Shankill ACT said on Twitter and Facebook: "We are delighted to announce that Rangers legend Mark Hateley will turn on the Shankill Christmas Tree lights on Friday November 29th!!!

"Keep an eye on this page and the Greater Shankill Winter Festival page for further updates on what’s sure to be another brilliant night on the Shankill."

After arriving at Rangers from French club Monaco, Hateley formed a formidable striking partnership with Ally McCoist and went on to score 115 goals in 222 games for the Light Blues.

He was voted Player of the year by the Scottish Football Writers' Association in the 1993/94 season, becoming the first Englishman to win this prestigious award.

Hateley - a Rangers Hall of Famer - eventually joined QPR in 1995 where he linked up with former teammate Ray Wilkins.
